Then and Now

If you'd asked anyone 26 months ago where I would be today, Colombia it would not be. If you had asked me 2 years and 2 months ago where I would be today, Asia, would be the best guess. In October 2008, I would not be able to tell you much about where I was going to be, who I had become, what I was going to do next. But, I would be able to tell you to not be surprised, anything really could happen, right?

one year

Today marks exactly that. One year I have been "on the road". Gone from the U.S. of A. Disappeared from first world societies. In all truthiness, I am not really sure where to start writing this blog. For the past two days I've thought about what I would write on this aniversario with nothing really coming to mind then or now. So, let's just write...

the david why

I was nearing the end of my year off between high-school and college. Eight months in Guatemala had flown by in a flurry, soon I’d be going home, and the little taste of the travel drug had made me an addict. One country wasn’t enough, I wanted to see the rest of the world. Unfortunately there was the small matter of four years of college in between me and the world. There were no other options to be had. So applications had been sent, acceptance letters received, and the bastard named Enrollment waited for me with an evil grin.

road construction ahead

Being on the road is quite simply, amazing. It provokes a different way of thinking for a new kind of life. Good and bad, not all is always well, but life is always swell. At 6 months into this journey, I have experienced so much in so little time. From people, new friends and old friends. To places, rich in heart and poor in pocket. To cultures, changing sides and staying past.

Holyoke Enterprise runs frontpage article

Before we left we stopped by the Holyoke Enterprise in Holyoke, Colorado where both Jason and I graduated high school from. They were kind enough to sit down with us and do a quick interview, running this article the following week. Thanks!

theme song

What would an adventure be like without a theme song? So...we've both been fans of MXPX for a while now, and we happened to be driving down the road a few weeks ago rocking out when on came a song we've heard a number of times off the Before Everything and After album called "It's Alright", and it clicked. The lyrics to the song couldn't fit much better, so: thanks MXPX, dont sue us RIAA, here are the lyrics and on the homepage you will find a streaming version of it near the bottom. Enjoy!

the jason why

Do you ever feel like you don’t belong somewhere? I have played the college game… I have played the governmental game… I have played the relationship game… I have played the full time job game… I have even played the party and live the ski bum life game. In none of these places am I content where I am at. In none of these places can I even imagine myself staying there long term. In none of these places do I say to myself: I like being around these people and this is my life… They have all been a prelude if you will. A means to an end for me to live out my largest passion in life. Travel.

the brendon why

part 1This is probably one of the hardest initial blogs to write, which is why I've been delaying...where to begin. I've had a passion for traveling since my first trip to Europe, specifically the United Kingdom, in 1997 when I was 15. My second trip, in 2002, was back to England with a few days in Ireland during my freshman year in college. This was the first of many trips I would soon be taking with Jason.

The three "a's" is what I'm going to call them. America (Central and South), Africa, and Asia. The plan begins without a plan, but, since everyone wants us to be more specific, here's the best i can do.
